The Pittsburg Tank and Tower Group (PTTG) has been family owned and operated since 1919. They began as Pittsburg Tank and Tower Company, establishing themselves as a player in the tank and tower industries through the 20th century. Owned by the Johnston Family, growth and product diversity led to two departments becoming independent companies – Allstate Tower in 2003 and Pittsburg Tank and Tower Maintenance in 2008.

All three companies work together as a team to design, build, and maintain storage tanks and communication towers, as well as designing and fabricating steel support systems for industries around the world. “PTTG currently has product standing in over 50 countries,” said Keegan O’Daniel, General Manager of Allstate Tower, Inc. PTTG’s Allstate Tower, Inc. is a design-build, full-service tower company and support system manufacturer. Their customer base ranges from top cell phone carriers to agricultural companies internationally and domestically, along with local farmers from their home base in Henderson, Ky.
“Historically, the communications tower market is the cornerstone of our business. Most recently, the sales of our manufactured support systems has more than doubled over the past two years,” O’Daniel said.

Success is a by-product of the values the Johnston’s have built their businesses around, said O’Daniel. Those values are relationships, integrity, discipline, and heritage. They are honest experts who know they do not have to be the stars of the show to make a valuable contribution to the good work their clients are doing. They care about their people. They guarantee their product. They focus on sustaining a safety culture. And they still believe in the value of handshake. The company has 11 acres of land and 7 acres under roof. O’Daniel assures the size of their facility has played a main role responding to customer needs by helping complete projects on time and under budget.

“From idea to delivery, our clients have to remember only one phone number. When a solution is needed, we can walk down the hall and collaborate immediately. In a world where time is money, this value is priceless,” O’Daniel said.

In 2015, Allstate Tower decided to secure the resources and expand its services by becoming a licensed engineering firm. This has allowed the company to gain the designation and solidify itself as a player in the world of design-build manufacturing. In two short years, their engineering firm has been able to provide clients with substantial cost savings. From redesigning projects for minimal weight and maximum strength, to designing solutions for clients dealing with a failing product they received from another company.

Allstate Tower engineers have domestic and international licenses. They use the latest versions of modeling software like Tekla, RISA 3D and STAAD Pro that have become the industry standard. Their team of engineers and tower designers can handle any project, anywhere. “This type of work is costly, complicated, and technically demanding. Our client’s place a great deal of trust in who they choose,” O’Daniel said. “We earn that trust through the integrity of our product, and the integrity of our work ethic. When it comes to engineering, our focus is: Structure. And Integrity.”

Part of building value around relationships goes beyond their customer base. Allstate Tower is also dedicated to translating that value to its suppliers. Maumee, Ohio-based Aktion Associates has been an Allstate Tower partner since 2014. Aktion spent time reviewing the business management systems, project flow, and accounting needs to provide the best solution for the company’s technology platform – SAGE300 CRE, SAGE Construction Project Center, SAGE CRM, and SAGE HRMS. “Every project begins and ends inside the SAGE platform. It expedites the management of employees, customers, projects, suppliers, and all things accounting,” O’Daniel said.

Direct Metals has been an ongoing supplier for Allstate Tower for many years. The Atlanta, Ga.- based company provides Allstate’s bar grating for manufacturing items like catwalks and stairs. “Direct Metals is one of our many suppliers we rely on to make us better. Our suppliers are part of our team and we appreciate each one for continually providing a superior product so we can manufacture a superior product,” O’Daniel said.

Since its 2003 inception, Allstate Tower has been proud to be an integral part of the Henderson, Kentucky community. The company employs more than 120 individuals, while the entire Pittsburg Tank and Tower Group is comprised of more than 400 people from the Henderson community and surrounding areas.

The company is also active in local education, providing on-site training to Henderson County High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) students to prepare them for the workplace. Marganna Stanley, Superintendent of Henderson County Schools said, “Allstate Tower, Inc. and all of the Pittsburg Tank and Tower Group have a strong commitment and dedication to providing Henderson County High School students with quality real world experiences in the work place. These experiences help better prepare tomorrow’s manufacturing workforce in Henderson County. Both of our organizations are dedicated to the success and retention of the unrivaled workmanship and craftsmanship developed by through these opportunities.”
For a century, Pittsburgh Tank and Tower Group has been focused on serving its clients and community. From providing a safe secure product, to providing real life experiences to high school students – relationships, community, and customer care are intentional values. For the last 12 years, Allstate Tower has been exemplifying those same values as it continues to grow.

“We’re going to continue to stay on the forefront of safety and innovation. We’re going to continue to be intentional about encompassing everything we say, think, and do into our values - relationships, integrity, discipline, and heritage. The synergy of those items create our momentum, and our opportunities,” O’Daniel said. “I smile when I think about where Allstate Tower will be 5, 10, even 20 years from now.”
